Managing disobedience

According to the Director of the Parenting and Family Support Centre at UQ, Professor Matt Sanders, if you've got kids, you can expect them to be disobedient at some stage - there's no such thing as a child who doesn't push the boundaries at some stage.

"If you had a youngster that was so super co-operative that they never questioned or challenged anything that they were asked to do, I would be concerned about that youngster's development," says Professor Sanders.

However, some children are more disobedient than others. Research shows that if you ask a pre-school-aged child to do 10 things over half an hour, they'll generally only co-operate with six or eight of the requests.
