Divorce and separation are stressful enough for the adults involved. Just imagine what they must be like for your children. If signs and events have led up to the decision to end an adult relationship, few children will make the connection.

This is a catastrophic change in their lives. They don’t understand the lead-up like you, as adults, do. In their eyes, the family is forever, and that applies even if, in your mind, being together is worse than being apart.
