Sandwich generation often spread too thin
Adults who find themselves squeezed between caring for their children and their elderly parents or other family members are often referred to as “the sandwich generation.”
According to the Pew Research Center, 1 in 8 Americans ages 40 to 60 takes care of his or her children and aging parents — and the group is growing.
As parents age, grown children often gradually assume more responsibility for them. When the situation isn’t carefully orchestrated, however, aging parents might start to rely too heavily on their children.
